Dr. S.N. Maurya joined this University as the founder Officer on Special Duty on 29.12.2001. Before taking up this assignment, Dr. Maurya was working as Professor and Head, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, G.B. Pant University of Agricultural and Technology, Pantnagar. With an academic career spanning more than 35 years, he worked long hours giving new direction and planning future strategies for transforming the idea of the University into reality. Along with a few dedicated officers, teachers and employees, he prepared the Xth Five-Year Plan proposal and the budget even before a Finance Officer was in place, and meticulously conducted the University’s first Pre-Veterinary Test (PVT) 2002. Dr. Maurya relinquished the charge of O.S.D. on August 11, 2002 and returned to his parent institute.

Dr. D.P. Singh, Professor and Head of Microbiology and former Dean, Veterinary College, Mathura, took over as the second O.S.D. of the University from Dr. S.N. Maurya on 12.08.2002. His academic and administrative career spanned almost 35 years. Dr. Singh carried the University forward on the track set in motion by Dr. Maurya, relinquishing the office of O.S.D. on 21.03.2003 following the appointment of Dr. Shri Krishna Garg as the University’s first Vice-Chancellor.

Dr. Shri Krishna Garg, a native of Brij Bhumi and a graduate of the first batch of G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar (1964), took over as the founder Vice-Chancellor of the University on March 21, 2003. During his tenure, approximately ten crore rupees were released by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for construction of the Administrative Block, College of Biotechnology, College of Animal Business Management, Boys Hostel and Residential Complex. He also secured EFC clearance for more than forty crore rupees for establishment of Go-Anusandhan Sansthan, College of Fisheries, the University Auditorium, Gymnasium Hall, hostels, boundary wall and roads.

With support from ICAR, New Delhi, he strengthened the University’s finances and secured funds for modernization and mechanization of the Madhuri Kund and D.D.D. agricultural farms, establishment of the ARIS Cell and Local Area Network (LAN), upgradation of the University Library, and provision of internet facilities across departments and offices.

His tenure also saw the establishment of the Publication Division and the Directorate of Counselling and Placement, construction of two conference halls with audiovisual facilities, and a hi-tech lab for training field veterinarians. The University took over KVK, Mathura from CSAUA&T, Kanpur, and began its six-monthly Newsletter and first Progress Report during this period. He was also instrumental in promoting sports and extracurricular activities among students.

For the benefit of farmers, he ensured the dissemination of the latest agricultural and animal husbandry knowledge through Kisan Melas, Kisan Goshthis, demonstrations and mobile clinics, and implemented the ASCAD programme of the Government of India for training field veterinary officers and extension workers.

Dr. Ramji Das Agrawal, Professor and Head, Department of Parasitology, was given charge as Vice-Chancellor of the University with effect from March 21, 2006. An alumnus of the erstwhile U.P. College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Mathura, he placed strong emphasis on improving the academic environment of the University, particularly student punctuality in classes.

Dr. M.L. Madan, a distinguished agricultural and animal scientist and internationally recognized biotechnologist, served as Vice-Chancellor of two universities — this University and Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University, Akola — and as Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences), ICAR; Joint Director Research, NDRI Karnal; and Chairman of the National Animal Biotechnology Task Force of the Government of India, among other national roles. He pioneered embryo transfer technology in cattle and buffaloes, producing ten calves from a single elite cow within a year, and produced the world’s first in-vitro fertilized (test-tube/IVF) buffalo calf, for which he received international scientific acclaim and subsequently provided consultancy through the FAO in developing countries.

In recognition of his contributions, he received numerous national and international awards, including the B.P. Pal Award (2006), Bhasin Award (2002), Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award (1992), Hari Om Award (1990), Ogouri Biotechnology Award from Japan (1995), and the Distinguished Veterinarian Award (DIVA) from the Indian Association for Advancement of Veterinary Research (2002), among others.

Dr. Madan served as Vice-Chancellor of the University from October 5, 2006 to October 4, 2009. Under his leadership, the University advanced significantly in faculty recruitment, infrastructural development, and creation of new facilities for farmers, students and staff.

Dr. G.C. Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSAUAT), Kanpur, was given charge as Vice-Chancellor of this University on October 5, 2009. During his four months in office, he placed significant emphasis on improving the University’s dairy farm.

Prof. A.P. Singh, a renowned surgeon, clinician, academician and administrator, joined the University as Vice-Chancellor on February 8, 2010. He previously headed the Faculty of Veterinary Science, JNKVV, Jabalpur, and the College of Veterinary Sciences, CCS HAU, Hisar, as Dean, and served as Director, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Services Complex, and Professor & Head, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. He also completed international assignments at Haramaya University, Ethiopia, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, Mosul University, Iraq. He has been honoured with fellowships from the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences and the Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery, and has 254 publications to his credit, including 237 refereed research papers, three books and 14 book chapters.

His major achievements included strengthening the Instructional Livestock Farm and the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, infrastructural development, expansion of student amenities, and recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff.

Dr. Rajesh Nigam, Dean, College of Biotechnology, and Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, was given charge as Vice-Chancellor of the University on February 8, 2013, serving briefly until February 19, 2013. He is an alumnus of the erstwhile U.P. College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Mathura.

Prof. A.C. Varshney, a renowned surgeon, clinician, academician and administrator, joined the University as Vice-Chancellor on February 20, 2013. He previously served as Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, CAU, Aizawl, Mizoram, and Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, CSK HPKV, Palampur, where he contributed significantly to infrastructure development and staffing. He handled 14 national and four state-level research projects, guided more than 13 postgraduate theses, and authored over 160 research articles. His major achievements at DUVASU included strengthening faculty positions, infrastructural development, expansion of student amenities, and liaison with other institutions.

Prof. K.M.L. Pathak, born in village Naraura, district Etah, Uttar Pradesh, completed his B.V.Sc & A.H., M.V.Sc and Ph.D. with academic distinction from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, and obtained a postdoctoral degree in Biotechnology from the University of Salford, United Kingdom. Prior to joining as Vice-Chancellor, he served as Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences), ICAR (2010–15); Director, National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner (2006–09); Director Research, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner (2003–06); and Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Parasitology, College of Veterinary Science, Bikaner (1986–2003).

During his tenure, he secured grants for construction of the University’s boundary walls and roads from the State Government, and substantial RKVY project funding that established a silage-making demonstration unit, an environment-controlled chamber and calorimetric unit, a referral laboratory for milk quality evaluation, and a semen analytical laboratory, alongside modernization of the goat farm and the University’s referral hospital. The University also received ICAR Development Grant funding for construction of the auditorium, renovation of the Sarojini Nehru, Shastri and Gautam hostels, examination halls, and library automation. His efforts also led to sanctioned teaching posts for establishment of the College of Fisheries.

More than 46 faculty members were promoted to higher scale under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) during his tenure, reflecting his consistent focus on staff welfare and development.

Born on January 7, 1955 in Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. G.K. Singh obtained his B.Sc. (Bio) from Allahabad University in 1974, followed by his B.V.Sc & A.H., M.V.Sc (Veterinary Pathology), Ph.D (Veterinary Pathology) and Ph.D (Anatomy) from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, between 1978 and 1993. He was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Silver Medal as the second-best graduating student of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences for 1977–78.

He joined G.B. Pant University as Assistant Professor (Veterinary Anatomy) in 1981, was elevated to Associate Professor in 1987 and Professor in 1997, and was appointed Head of Veterinary Anatomy in 1998, receiving the Best Teacher Award in 2000–01. He has published 12 books, manuals and bulletins, four review articles, 70 research papers, and has guided nine postgraduate and doctoral students. He served as Director, Training and Placement (2003–06); Director, Administration & Monitoring (2007–08); and Dean, College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (2008–19), before taking over as Vice-Chancellor of this University on March 2, 2019.

He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (India), the Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists, and the Society for Immunology and Immunopathology, and has received the Life Achievement Award and Veterinary Anatomist of the Year (2010) award from IAVA. He was instrumental in founding the Veterinary Alumni Society of Pantnagar, serving as its founder General Secretary.

Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Srivastava, a distinguished veterinary and animal scientist, joined as Vice-Chancellor of DUVASU, Mathura on June 4, 2022. An alumnus of this College, he completed his graduation and postgraduation in Veterinary Pharmacology here, obtained his Ph.D. from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and a postdoctoral fellowship from the Institute of Toxicology, Munich, Germany. He holds honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degrees from DUVASU, Mathura and NDVSU, Jabalpur.

Before joining DUVASU, he served as Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), DARE, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India; Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal; Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, and Director Resident Instructions & Dean PGS at SKUAST-Jammu; and Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology and Controller of Examinations at PAU, Ludhiana.

He has served as President of the National Academy of Dairy Science (India), Patron of the Indian Dairy Association, and President of the Association of Mastitis and the Probiotic Association of India, among other national roles, and is a Founder Authority Member of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the National Academy of Dairy Sciences and the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences, among ten other national scientific societies.

He has received numerous honours including the ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award, the International NOCIL Award, the National Alarsin Award, the ASET Gold Medal, and the German Academic Exchange Award, and has been conferred Life Time Achievement Awards by several professional societies. He has more than 250 research papers, ten books and 12 national policy papers to his credit, and has guided more than 25 doctoral and postgraduate students.
