DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Brief about the Department
The Department of Fisheries Resource Management (FRM) is dedicated to teaching, research, and extension in the field of sustainable fisheries and aquatic ecosystem management. The Department follows the ICAR 6th Deans’ Committee syllabus and actively contributes to outcome-based fisheries education. The Department of Fisheries Resource Management was established with the inception of the College of Fisheries Science, DUVASU, Mathura, during the academic year 2024-25. Since its establishment, the Department has been engaged in teaching, research, and extension activities focusing on fish diversity, fisheries biology, and the scientific management of aquatic resources, with special reference to the inland fisheries of Uttar Pradesh.

Facilities
Referral Museum
A Referral Fish Museum, comprising a diverse collection of aquatic organisms, including finfishes, shellfishes, and other aquatic fauna and flora, is maintained by the Department. The museum serves as an important teaching, training, and reference facility for students, providing hands-on exposure to the identification, diversity, morphology**,** taxonomy, and classification of aquatic organisms. In addition to its academic functions, the museum serves as a platform for capacity building, extension, and outreach activities. Trainees, fish farmers, stakeholders, and visitors are educated about the importance of aquatic biodiversity, conservation of aquatic resources, sustainable fisheries management, and the ecological significance of aquatic organisms. The museum therefore functions as a valuable centre for aquatic biodiversity awareness, fisheries education, practical learning, conservation, and stakeholder-oriented outreach, contributing to the promotion of sustainable fisheries and responsible management of aquatic resources.

EXTENTION ACTIVITIES:
The Department actively undertakes farmer- and public-centric extension activities to promote sustainable fisheries, aquatic resource conservation, and the adoption of improved fish farming practices. Major activities include:
Fish Seed Ranching in the Yamuna River
Stocking of fish seed/fingerlings in the Yamuna River to support fish stock enhancement, aquatic biodiversity conservation, and sustainable fisheries development.
Awareness and Outreach Activities
Farmers, trainees, and the general public are sensitized about aquatic biodiversity conservation, responsible fisheries, and sustainable utilization of aquatic resources.
